Wat Banan Temple

Located about 25km from Battambang city, Wat Banan is a hilltop temple that dates back to the Angkor-era.
To access the temple, you will need to navigate about 300 stairs. However, the effort is worth it as the peak boasts stunning panoramic views that take in Sangke River, a patchwork of paddies studded with sugar palms and small villages.
While many temples across Cambodia have been the victim of looting, Wat Banan remains relatively in tact. It features five temple structures and, like Angkor Wat, the middle is the largest. There are three towers containing intricate carvings, including ethereal apsaras.
