Ta Mok’s House
Tamok House, Anlong Veng, Cambodia, Oddar Meanchey
Ta Mok, nicknamed “The Butcher” was a senior general in the Khmer Rouge regime. He controlled the area around Anlong Veng district of Oddar Meanchey province until 1997 – long after the fall of the Khmer Rouge.
Ta Mok’s house is located just north of Anlong Veng town. The property is surrounded on three sides by a picturesque lake, a beautiful but also defensible position. The house hosted many high level Khmer Rouge meetings and is an important historical landmark.
Nowadays Ta Mok’s house is a small museum with interesting old photographs. It is certainly worth a stop on the road between Siem Reap and Preah Vihear.
