Koh Trong is a large island in the middle of the Mekong opposite Kratie town. In the dry season the river is low revealing a large sandy beach. The tranquil island makes a peaceful escape from the mainland and is known locally as the “market garden of Kratie” thanks to its a patchwork of paddies and fruit orchards dotted with rural houses.
Take a five-minute ferry ride from Kratie town and hire a bicycle to get around Koh Trong, navigating the motos and ox carts on the sandy roads. This is a great way to get a glimpse into true rural Cambodian life.
