Banteay Kdei
Banteay Kdei, which means Citadel of Chambers, is part of the Angkor compkex, located southeast of Ta Prohm and east of Angkor Thom.
History of Banteay Kdei
The temple lies opposite Srah Srang, and is similar to the other Jayavarman VII temples of Preah Khan and Ta Prohm, although it is the smallest of the three.
Built, like these, in the late 12th to 13th century, it formed part of Jayavarman’s massive building plan during which he constructed Angkor Thom and the magnificent temple of Bayon.
The layout of the temple complex is confusing at best. Like the other works of Jayavarman VII, the central area is tightly packed with buildings, surrounded by two rectangular enclosures. The temple is mostly unrestored and can be fully explored. A visit is usually combined with Srah Srang opposite the east entrance to Banteay Kdei.
Where is Banteay Kdei?
The temple is in the heart of the Angkor site near Ta Prohm and Angkor Thom.
