Andong Russey Pottery Community

Kampong Chhnang is famous countrywide for ceramics, with traditional pottery communities dotting the province. However, the real home of Kampong Chhnang’s pottery is the small village of Andong Russey just to the west of town.

It is literally a village, so don’t expect a visitors’ centre or tourist trap. Most of the houses in the village are in the business of producing pottery and, in true Cambodian style, if you ask they are more than happy for you to look around and watch them at work. Some will have finished pieces for sale, which make a nice souvenir. This is a very authentic experience and not one to be found in the guide books.

Piggybanks of various shapes and sizes are one of the most popular products. These are painted in bright colours and sold all over the country. As you make your way across Cambodia, you will see them being sold from shops on the side of many roads.
