Koh Kong province is on the southwest coast of Cambodia.
Most people who are heading to the coast in Cambodia will gravitate towards Sihanoukville and the islands next to it, such as Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem. Or perhaps they will go to Kep close to the Vietnam border, but there is an alternative beach destination in Cambodia.
Koh Kong is situated right next to the Thai border, the town itself has the feel of a transient border town, however it is much more pleasant than Poipet.
Outside of the town you will discover magnificent beaches especially on the island of Koh Kong as well as a magnificent stretch of mangrove forest, a boat trip through this is a must on anyone’s Cambodian bucket list

Where to Go after Enjoying Koh Kong Province?
From Koh Kong town you could head to Tatai, with its wonderful waterfall, or beyond that follow the coast to Sihanoukville.
The coastal provinces of Kampot and Kep lie further away but are certainly worth a visit.
An adventurous option from Koh Kong is to take the winding mountain road north through the Cardamom Mountains. After passing miles of spectacular scenery and natural jungle you’ll end up in Pursat, a province with a wealth of things to do.
