Koh Rong Samloem
If you are looking for your own slice of paradise than you’ve come to the right place, Cambodia’s islands are certainly beautiful and less developed than the more famous islands in Thailand. A prime example of this is Koh Rong Samloem.
The island is just a quick hop over the water by speed ferry (45 minutes) from Sihanoukville. If you are looking for a beautiful piece of paradise to relax on and do literally nothing then this is the place.
Koh Rong Samloem’s Bays
The main landing point for the speed ferries is Saracen Bay. If you are planning to stay on the island, check exactly where your resort is located as you may find you have a bit of a walk down the beach, which is not fun with heavy bags as we found out. Luckily many of the ferry companies can arrange smaller boats to ferry you down the beach if you wish.
Koh Rong Samloem’s crowning jewel is Lazy Beach, which can be accessed by a short walk along the jungle path behind Royal Retreat Resort or by boat from the main pier. To walk it only takes around 15-20 minutes but is well worth it. Lazy Beach is a beautiful almost untouched piece of paradise with just one resort that has a fantastic restaurant serving great food, in great portions at great prices.
Just like its bigger sister island Koh Rong, Koh Rong Samloem has no ATMs on the island. Also few resorts open for breakfast before 9am nor do many serve food between lunch and dinner so if you are the type to eat out of hours, beware.
Where is Koh Rong Samloem?
Koh Rong Samloem is an island off the south coast of Cambodia you can reach easily from Sihanoukville.

Once you are here, you may never wish to leave, but in addition to snorkelling and lazing on the beach, you can try one of the other islands such as Koh Rong, or venture further along the coast to Kampot and Kep, or drive up beautiful Bokor Mountain.
