Sihanoukville is well known as a rapidly growing coastal city that makes the most of its relatively small coastline by offering travellers access to some of the best islands in Cambodia not to mention the laid back Otres Beach, although in recent years this has become more laid off than back.
Sihanoukville, or Kompong Som as Cambodians call it, is the main coastal resort in Cambodia. Its string of beaches include Victory, Independence, Sokha, Ochheuteal, Serendipity and Otres. In recent years it has been transformed into a half-built Macao appealing to the huge Asian gambling market.
Here is our guide of things to do in Sihanoukville.

Where to Go after Enjoying Sihanoukville?
In many respects the best thing about Sihanoukville is the leaving of it.
From Sihanoukville you can follow the coast east to Kampot and Kep, two wonderful laid back places where you can relax and enjoy the excellent seafood, served naturally with Kampot Pepper. If you like you can extend your journey across the border to Vietnam via the Prek Chak to Hà Tiên crossing.
Go west (my boy) and you will end up eventually at Koh Kong, close to the Thai border. Ensure you take a boat trip through the mangroves.
Alternatively, jump on a speed ferry at the port in Sihanoukville and enter the paradise islands of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem.
If you’ve had enough of the sea air then head inland to Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Angkor, or the lesser walked path through Kampong Chhnang, Pursat and Battambang.
